EKITI SPEAKER CHARGES LAWYERS TO SPONSOR PRIVATE BILLS, EMBRACE AGRICULTURE. Legal practitioners in Ekiti State have been challenged to come out and sponsor private bills for consideration at the Ekiti State House of Assembly. The assembly speaker, Rt. Hon. Adeoye Aribasoye gave the charge at the 2024 law week marked by members of the Nigeria Bar Association, NBA , Ikere Ekiti branch. Aribasoye, who joined other top discussants to address the role of lawyers and government in law, justice, economy and food security emphasized the need for lawyers to promote bills that speak to current developments in Nigeria as critical stakeholders. The speaker said the natural and government enhanced agricultural advantages that Ekiti state provide should be maximized by lawyers and Ekiti people in general so as to ensure sustenance and survival amid the current economic turmoil in the country. He underlined the place of quality legislation in encouraging and endearing investors to a state stressing that the 7th assembly in Ekiti State has recorded great feats in legislative works and oversight functions in the last one year. The speaker explained that spouses of lawmakers in the state assembly have equally toed the path of agricultural revolution as they currently have over three thousand poultry birds being reared to empower the less privileged. Rt. Hon. Aribasoye informed the gathering that the 7th assembly ensured the passage of regulation approval law to check discrepancies and conflicts between regulations put in place by MDAs and the state laws adding that the lawmakers have done much in constituency engagements and empowerments.
