EKITI RCCG WONDERFUL MEGA PARISH ROLLS OUT SUBSIDIZED FOOD ITEMS AMID INFLATION. As Nigerians strife to cope with the current economic hardship, the religious sector seems to be finding it compelling to intervene within their capacity. Wonderful Mega Parish of the Redeemed Christian Church of God in Ado Ekiti has arranged a subsidized market to provide affordable food items for the people. The arrangement tagged "Jesus Market' and made accessible to both members and non members saw those who patronised the market buying items at 50% of their current prices. More than four hundred residents benefited in the market sales initiative which gulped close to 2.5 million naira. The food items up for sales included rice, beans, garri, vegetable oil, palm oil,varieties of meat, noddles, vegetables, smoked fish, cooking ingredients, flours and eggs among others. The Pastor in Charge of the church who is also the Ekiti house of assembly speaker, Adeoye Aribasoye said the church could not afford to be insensitive to current realities adding that Christ's teaching centre around feeding people with sermons and also attending to their physical welfare. Aribasoye said the gesture which was not limited to RCCG members is expected to further encourage religious institutions to take steps to mitigate the economic sufferings of the people at a time like this. "This market initiative is to ease the burden of purchase of food items by subsidizing the costs of basic food items to half of their original market cost prices" He further highlighted expectations from the church leadership across the country. "The church leadership should not close its eyes to the sufferings of the people at this moment. While we are praying for the congregation plus other spiritual activities, we can water them physical also within affordable capacity."
